the idea behind
2008
installation
MacKenzie Art Gallery, Regina
Archival materials from a 1913 planning proposal for the City of Regina form the basis for this exhibition which includes the participation of hundreds of city residents. Resident voices are heard in a soundscape, their hands are involved in the construction of the sculpture; paper building blocks are shaped by participant's hands and inflated with their breath. Videos showing the process of construction in the gallery form the cornerstones of the sculpture. The evolution of the city is echoed in the gallery space. |
