The basic need for a comfortable home and a safe place to rest is common to all. We look around Vancouver's Downtown Eastside and see extremes: from the high up abodes of the very rich to the lane level encampments of the cruelly poor. Landscape is claimed and delineated by walls and fences, and basic comfort is a commodity.Fence invites the viewer to consider notions of space and ownership while spending time within the comfortable domesticity of the white picket fence.
